ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The Rochester Lancers today announced the addition of former English Premier League and MLS defender, Danny Earls. The 23-year-old Irish native joins the Lancers on loan after a successful season with the Rochester Rhinos. Earls’ professional career started in 2005 with Aston Villa of the English Premier League.

Earls joins the team as the 18th man on the roster heading into the Lancers’ opener in Syracuse. He will be joining returning players Patrick Hannigan, Gavin McInerney, Brayton Knapp, Kyle Manscuk, Jake Schindler, Elliot Fauske, Jeremy Ortiz, Gary Boughton, Jefferson Dargout, Mauricio Salles, Doug Miller, Rey “Boom Boom” Martinez and new Lancers Steve Basso, Garret Pettis, Troy Cole, Pedrinho,
Ivory Washington and Andy Tiedt.

Earls’ career began with Wicklow Rovers A.F.C. and St. Josephs Boys A.F.C. in his native Ireland, before moving to English Premier League club Aston Villa in 2005 as a 16-year-old.

“I’m thrilled to bring on a player of that caliber and experience, especially at such a young age of 23," said Lancers coach Jim Hesch. “He’s going to fit well with the rest of our team.”

In June 2008 Earls left England for the United States when he signed with Rochester Rhinos of the USL First Division. He made his debut with the team in the Rhinos’ 2-1 victory over RWB Adria in the 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 10, 2008. On July 29, 2008, he was selected as the USL-1 Player of the Week.

Earls played more than 40 games with the Rhinos in two seasons, before signing with Major League Soccer side Colorado Rapids on February 10, 2010. While with Colorado, the Rapids won the MLS Cup. Earls returned to the Rhinos for the 2012 USL PRO season, appearing in every regular-season contest while scoring two goals and adding three assists.
