Thursday, November 1, 2012

CHICAGO -- The Chicago Soul FC of the Major Indoor Soccer League have announced the signing of eight players to the club's roster, including MISL veteran and star forward, Carlos "Chile" Farias. Roberto Gallo, Cuitlahuac Christian Meza, Carlos Muñoz, Aaron Nichols, Nathan Sprenkel, Marco Sullo and Sean Summerville are also set to play for the Soul in its inaugural year.

Farias, a native of Santiago, Chile, brings 17 years of professional soccer experience to the squad. The two-time MISL MVP and national champion most recently played for Flash de Monterrey in Mexico. Prior to that, Farias played for various other professional indoor teams, such as Rochester Lancers (2012), Wichita Wings (2011), Omaha Vipers (2010), Monterrey La Raza (2009), Chicago Storm (2007), Detroit Ignition (2006), St. Louis Steamers (2005), and Baltimore Blast (2001-2003). Farias originally launched his career in the Major League Soccer (MLS) after being drafted by the San Jose Clash. He went on to play for the San Diego Sockers of the Continental Indoors Soccer League (CISL), where he earned Rookie of the Year in 1996.

"We are glad to have Chile here," said Chicago Soul President and CEO David Mokry. "He is an incredibly skillful and technical player. He brings determination and drive to the team, along with veteran knowledge and experience, which will be great for us as we head into our first year."

"I am really happy to be here in Chicago," said Farias. "I look forward to working with Novi [Marojevic] and other former teammates. I think we have a good group of guys who can compete and work towards a playoff run."

Gallo, who will also be adding to the Soul's veteran presence, comes to the club after having spent four years in the MISL. The 28-year-old defender from Chicago most recently played for the Chicago Riot and Rockford Rampage.

Meza, a 22-year-old forward from the local area of Carpentersville, Ill., joins the Soul after playing one season with the Charlotte Eagles of USL PRO and four years of NCAA Division I soccer at Bradley University.

Muñoz, a Uruguayan forward, looks to make a strong impact for the Soul as a newcomer. The 25-year-old most recently played for Miramar in Uruguay, leading the team to playoffs.

Nichols, another local player from Woodstock Ill., joins the Soul after playing four years of NCAA Division I soccer at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. The 24-year-old defender also previously played for Chicago Fire's U-20 team.

Sprenkel, a goalkeeper out of Zionsville, Ind., comes to the Soul after spending a season with USL PRO's Antigua Barracuda FC. The Depauw University All-American will serve as backup to starting goalkeeper Jeff Richey.

Sullo, 25, will be entering his fourth season of professional indoor soccer. The local midfielder out of Melrose Park, Ill. has previously played for the Chicago Riot (2010) and Rockford Rampage (2008-2010). Sullo also spent time with the Chicago Sockers and the U.S. National U-16 Team.

Summerville, a defender from Rochester, N.Y., recently played for Southern West Virginia Kings Warriors of the Premier Development League (PDL). Prior to that, Summerville had a short stint with the Rochester Lancers. The 25-year-old defender also spent a season in England playing for Merton FC after playing four years of NCAA Division I soccer for Syracuse University.

"I am impressed with this group, as a whole, so far," said Mokry. "We have a great mix of veterans and newcomers who have really seemed to come together and gel in practice. I look forward to seeing them grow as a team early in the season and become a competitive group who can make a push for playoffs."

The Soul will launch their inaugural season on Friday night in Syracuse, N.Y. against the Silver Knights, and will kick off their home opener on Friday, December 7, 2012 against the Rochester Lancers at the Sears Centre Arena. For ticket information, please call (224) 699-4110.
