2011-12 Regular Season: N/A
2012 Playoffs: N/A
The Lowdown: The lone expansion franchise in the MISL for the 2012-13 season, the Chicago Soul will likely face the same bumps in the road that all expansions teams go through. The club has built an experienced roster, coupled with a number of top local prospects, but the start to the season will provide the ultimate ‘sink-or-swim’ challenge for Manny Rojas’ club as its opening seven games take place on the road.
The Veterans: Chicago will be captained by Matt Stewart, with the MISL stalwart not only bringing top level skill but also extensive experience that will be necessary to help bring along the club’s younger players. Joining him are former Chicago Riot goalkeeper Jeff Richey, Alex Megson, who had 23 points in 14 games for Syracuse last season, and Will Kletzien, who spent last season with the Rochester Lancers.
The Newcomers: Judson McKinney and Cuitlahuac Meza both spent this past summer with the Charlotte Eagles in USL PRO, and will now try to adjust to the indoor game. McKinney was a standout at the recent MISL Combine, being named to the event’s All-Star team and earning a roster spot with the Soul, and could be an emerging player to watch at the Sears Centre.
Coach’s View: “We’ve got to take it step by step. Our first thing is win enough games to get to the playoffs. If you get to the playoffs, it’s because we have something, we have a team that can compete, and that’s what we’re working on now.” – Manny Rojas
