TAMPA, Fla. - The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) released its 2012-13 schedule today, with the action slated to kick off for the 91-game regular season on Friday, November 2. Opening night for North America’s top professional indoor soccer league will be highlighted by the debut of the Chicago Soul, who travel to face the Syracuse Silver Knights in their inaugural game. Also part of the opening-night action is a key rivalry game, with the Wichita Wings traveling to face the Missouri Comets at Independence Events Center.
Opening weekend will include a total of five matches, as the Silver Knights renew their rivalry with the Rochester Lancers and the Soul visit the Baltimore Blast for the first time on Saturday, November 3. Missouri heads to Wichita for Round 2 on Sunday, November 4 to close out the opening weekend’s action.
The two-time defending MISL champion Milwaukee Wave kick off their title defense on Friday, November 9 when they travel to face the Wings at Hartman Arena. A rematch of the 2012 MISL Championship takes place on Friday, November 16 when the Blast welcome the Wave to 1st Mariner Arena.
The 2012-13 regular season is set to wrap up on Sunday, March 3, with Wichita traveling to U.S. Cellular Arena to face the Wave in a game sure to have playoff implications.
The MISL Playoffs will begin with the semifinals March 8-10, featuring the No. 1 and No. 4 seeds and the No. 2 and No. 3 seeds meeting in home-and-home series’ with a mini game to decide the series following the second game if needed. The championship will follow the same format on March 15-17. The higher seed will have the option to choose which game it hosts.
The MISL Board of Governors increased each team’s number of regular season games from 24 to 26 beginning with the 2012-13 season, adding two games for each team without increasing the length of the regular season. The Governors also voted for a single-table format, eliminating the past divisional alignment.
A total of 336,000 fans attended MISL regular season games in 2011-12, an increase of nearly 140,000 from the previous season, while another 31,000 attended the six games in the MISL Playoffs.
