Wave Sweep Past Lancers
Terminesi grabs four goals in 23-10 victory

Monday, January 16, 2012

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Rochester Lancers fell 23-10 at home to the MISL-leading Milwaukee Wave in front of 5212 fans at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester Community War Memorial. Marco Terminesi had a nine-point night for the Wave, finding he back of the net four times, while Ian Bennett had two goals and two assists. Carlos “Chile” Farias scored his first goal of his Lancers’ career with a third-quarter 3-point free kick goal. Doug Miller had four points on the evening with a 3-point goal and an assist.

After a tight defensive battle for the first half of the first-quarter, the Lancers opened the scoring when Miller found Grady Renfrow with a looping cross and Renfrow headed the ball home for the lone goal of the opening fifteen minutes.

The Wave (11-1) pulled even early in the second quarter when a quick counter-attack saw Matt Stewart find Bennett to make it 2-2. Milwaukee took its first lead of the night when a Joe Hammes shot went off the end boards and Stewart volleyed the rebound past Lancers goalkeeper Patrick Hannigan. Just before halftime, Josh Rife’s headed clearance found Terminesi on the break and the Canadian fired a one-time 3-point shot that eluded Hannigan to give the Wave a 7-2 halftime lead.

Less than a minute into the second-half, Greg Howes took a Lancers turnover and found Terminesi in the Lancers penalty area and he chested the ball home for his second goal of the game. A little over a minute later, Farias scored his first goal as a Lancer when he powered home a 3-point free kick to pull the Lancers (6-9) back within four points, and the Lancers followed that with a 3-pointer by Miller with JP Rodrigues in the penalty box for tripping for the Wave to cut their lead to 9-8.

Milwaukee answered back when Bennett set up Nicolas Perera for a 3-point goal of his own, and the Wave extended their lead when Bennett took advantage of a Lancers turnover and set up Giuliano Oliveiro to make it 14-8. Bennett then scored his second of the night, this time from 3-point range, when JP Rodrigues found him on the break to give Milwaukee a 17-8 lead after three quarters.

Milwaukee was once again able to score in the opening minute of the quarter when Pablo found Terminesi at the top of the Lancers penalty area and he turned and completed his hat trick. Terminesi would add his fourth goal of the game as he scored unassisted on the counter-attack to give the Wave a 13-point lead before Perera scored his second of the game on a counter-attack as Jonathan Greenfield set him up in the Lancers penalty area for a tap-in finish. The Lancers picked up a late goal when Brayton Knapp found Lubo who put it into the top of the Wave goal with a minute to play, but it was too late for Rochester to contemplate a rally.

The Lancers next match is at 7 p.m. on Saturday night 2012 as they travel to play the Syracuse Silver Knights. The next Lancers home match is at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 12th as they host the Syracuse Silver Knights at the Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester Community War Memorial.
